I wiped XP & loaded kde-minime-2011.09 on a friends computer with a Sempron CPU and then upgraded the kernel to 2.6.38.8.bfs and now he says the machine locks up quite frequently.  Angry
He's pretty sure it didn't do this before I "improved it".  Embarrassed
He's 23 miles one way therefore field service gets to be a bit of a drag and so I explained that the old kernel should still be available at the boot screen if he's quick enough (5sec).  Grin
My question is what was the default kernel version in kde-minime-2011.09 and is there a better match for an AMD Sempron CPU?

Thanks!

The above page says the kernel you mention is the same as the one in the installation image you mentioned.

If that's really the case, I wonder why Synaptic didn't show it as already installed?

I see two 2.6.38.8 kernels in Synaptic (not accounting for the [null]; a64; bfs; pae; pae.bfs variations of each - that would make ten different 2.6.38.8 kernels):

Quote
kernel-2.6.38.8-pclos1
kernel-2.6.38.8-pclos3

If the user presses an arrow key as soon as the grub screen displays, the timer will terminate, and they will then have as much time as they like to cursor up and down before pressing [ENTER] to boot whatever kernel is selected then.

Thanks.
Tex recommended the 2.6.38.8.bfs kernel upgrade back in the summertime but I'm still unsure which kernel the minime-2011.09.iso installs.
The 5sec timer is the least of my buddy's worries, he was looking for a "select" radio button or something until I explained it's only keyboard selectable.  Roll Eyes

Why are you unsure?

That's as clear as clear can be. No horseshit.

Maybe I'm just stupid, but I'm OK with that.

Angry Do not call yourself or anybody else stupid! Angry
Perhaps you mistook one of the other 2.6.38 kernels for the 2.6.38.8bfs kernel. That could happen.
