I have downloaded KDE Desktop and burned the image on a cd. I am booting from this cd on a Dell laptop with i3 processor. I am at "local host login". What login and password do I use?

the username is guest and the password would also be guest. After logging in at the prompt type startx that should get you to the desktop |

Did you follow the proper procedures to check your download and burn at the proper speed to avoid a corrupted data CD that would drop you to a local host instead of getting to the desktop like most everyone else? Hope you don't have one of those stupid hybrid graphic video cards. |

You have a corrupt download and/or burn. Go to --- http://www.pclinuxos.com/?page_id=180 and download the ISO from one of the mirror sites. If you are using ms windows, scroll down to the Additional Information section for instructions on burning the CD. If you are using Linux, check the md5sum of the download against the md5sum on the page. KDE Full Version - Md5Sum: 6ebf25fc77f71f5f840547d844e93cdc KDE Mini Version - md5sum: 0bd0bd48276ec9b4d4db84bdf1fa46a5 Always burn at your media's slowest speed. |

Have you tried Video Safe mode of booting? ....... think that is what it is called ..... been a long time ... |

The MD5sum result matches what is given above for the full KDE version. So my downloaded file is good. That leaves the burn. Will do the burn on a different computer to see if that helps. Thank all of you for your input. This is my first try a Linux. Looking like it could be my last. Wish me luck. Thanks again.

I wish you luck  (and no, Linux will keep pulling you ) Burn slowly, and if even that doesn't work; you can try the LiveUSB-route (just for your information) |

The new burn worked. Was able to get on the web. Could not figure out how to widen display to full screen. Thanks for the help. I am done.

Your screen resolution was not correctly set? Easy to change: Menu > More Applications > Configuration > Configure Your Computer (We call this PCC or PCLinuxOS Control Center) >give root password, "root" at the prompt< >>> Hardware (menu on left) >>> Configure video card. If you need further assistance, let us know. |

I may have a similar problem, or it may be gone. I don't want to shut down and find out! I finally got a working PCLOS fm that ended up w/the regular mode instead of the fm but that is fine anyway, I really like it. But while installing, I was asked to set up user, root, password then it said no passwords w/grub or something like that, so had to delete them. Then once booted up, all was fine, got the internet working, just need the vertical slide and tap feature on the touchpad now but all else is great. That was last night. Today, I find a log on screen w/user and login names there and I have to add my password which it told me it couldn't take during installation! I entered my original one and after 10 tries it let me in. What's going on and how do I change them so there will be no surprises. It is not in login screen configuration, security, and add/edit users showed a password but may not be accepting a new one there. Where do I chge it? The whole system is beautiful and very thoughtfully and tastefully done by the way, congratulation on an amazing job.
